A modern day approach to the traditional split-rail is a mortised split-rail. The Cedar Mills version of the split rail retains the early American rugged style but uses a more secure and straight construction method. The mortised split-rail is made with vertical posts set in the ground with holes drilled through. These holes or mortises, are used to secure the pointed ends of split rails.
The split-rail fence is used today as a decorative fencing solution and for marking property lines.
